Notes on Epigastric Hernia Operation


What is it?
Protrusion of extraperitoneal fat through linea alba, maybe midline or lateral.

How is it dealt with?




How is it Diagnosed?
Out of proportion pain and diagnosis is after excluding other dx especially peptic ulcers. 

Operative Notes:
General Anaesthesia or local anaesthesia is give followed by vertical incision, dissection of sac, enlarge defect laterally, incise at neck along the sac, contents reduced, neck ligated with transfixion absorbable suture and hernia excised and Mayo’s repair done followed by obliteration of dead space and adhesive tape for skin, sutures for skin are avoided.
